Supporting Others

Herts Young Homeless are a small, local charity, based in Hertfordshire whose mission is to prevent youth homelessness across the county through a range of free services. This includes education in schools and family mediation through to supporting 16 to 24 year-olds in their first homes or caring for adults of all ages who have mental health issues and housing needs.

Their services empower young people to be able to deal with difficult situations in their lives, giving them the ability and confidence to ‘do it themselves’ and find stability. Last year, Herts Young Homeless helped over 2495 young people get their lives back on track and through donating, you can support them to help even more young people.  Young people like Shaun, who got in touch with hyh when he wasn’t sure where to turn.

Shaun’s Story

Shaun had been in care since the age of 14 and grew up labelled as a naughty child. His son lives with his parents after a court decision of neglect and he is desperate to have contact again. To see his son, Shaun has to use a contact centre which costs £80 monthly which is too expensive for his benefits to cover.

To begin with, the hyh team contacted Shaun’s social worker to house him as a care leaver instead of using his homeless application which led to Shaun moving into his own council flat. hyh then supported Shaun to apply for a grant to pay for the contact centre costs which he is waiting to hear back from. In the meantime, he speaks to his son regularly over the phone.

Also, as his behaviour is more stable, his mother invited him to his son’s third birthday party which Shaun is very excited about. He has also applied to take his Maths and English exams at a local college to improve his grades and chances of employment. He says he is in a better position to take control of his life and hyh will have a final meeting with him soon where he will be provided with an exit pack to help him stay on track and Shaun knows where to find further advice and support if he needs it.

It’s my absolute pleasure to deliver this workshop to as many hearts and minds who are as passionate as I am about changing the shape of this world for our next generation. I ask for a small charitable donation of £10.00 per attendee for the programme all proceeds go to a charity of my choice to assist the next generation. https://hertsyounghomeless.enthuse.com/FreshFutures#!/

To re iterate, I do not charge for this, I give 90 minutes of my time very regularly and all proceeds go straight to Herts Young Homeless, to help people like Sean.
